The sage brand archetype
If you’re the smartes t person in the ro om, then you’re in the wrong ro om.
What the eff even are brand archetypes?!
Archetypes were first introduced by famous psychologist Carl Jung way back in the 1940’s.
If you wanna’ know more about the Jung’s theory, you can read my post over here, or you could just Google it because there are about a gajillion and one articles out there that talk about them.
So instead of trying to summarize his life’s work, this page is my version of how you can apply these babies to your business & life.
Let’s dive the heck in.

Online Entrepreneurs
Wisdom is one of the most valuable – and rare – commodities in the entrepreneurial world.
But don’t confuse wisdom with knowledge, or even with intelligence. Anyone can learn a new skill. Anyone can study and replicate strategies they’ve read about on the internet.
It takes true wisdom to take a pile of information and apply it in a useful way. That’s what the Sage does.
John Lee Dumas // Entrepreneurs on Fire
OMG he is amazing. I think one of the most misunderstood things about online biz (and business in general) is that people don’t pay to just get more information. People need ORGANIZATION of information so they can apply it to their business in a useful way. That’s what JLD does with Enrepreneur of Fire.
He has the BEST guests on his show and they share real, practical, A-FREAKIN’-MAZING advice. It’s my dream to be on his show. Have your people call me 😉

Fictional Characters
Did you know that the archetypes all have a “shadow side” too? That’s why I’m showin’ ya the GOOD and the BAD side, so make sure to hover over the imagesto learn how each character fits the Sage Archetype.
The sage brand archetype
The Good Side
Belle
Belle
Belle has always been one of my favorites. She stays true to herself and sticks to what she loves, even when everyone in town thinks she’s a weirdo. Except Gaston. But, he’s just creepy.
sage brand archetype
The Bad Side
Jafar
Jafar
He’s pretty much the worst advisor, like ever. He just wants take over Agrabah and marry a girl who wants nothing to do with him. Plus, he’s way too old for her anyway, right!? Ew.
The sage brand archetype
The Good Side
The Hulk
The Hulk
He’s a giant, green, scholarly monster. Yes, you could argue that he belongs on the dark side of the page, but he’s good deep down. So he stays here. My page, my rules. Suck it.
sage brand archetype
The Bad Side
Dr. Strange
Dr. Stephen Strange
I know he’s not really bad. But he’s a good representation of the dark side of the Sage. He’s overly critical, cold, impractical, and generally a dick. Which kinda makes me like him even more.
The sage brand archetype
The Good Side
Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger
Hermione fits the Sage Archetype to a T. She’s smart, analytical, and she regularly saves the guys’ butts because she’s always prepared for everything. Those goobers woulda’ been dead in the first book without her.
sage brand archetype
The Bad Side
Percy Weasley
Percy Weasley
Percy has all the characteristics of the shadow side of the Sage. He’s a condescending, goody-two-shoes that annoys the pants off of everyone. But, he is usually right. Doesn’t that make it even more annoying, though? It does.
The sage brand archetype
The Good Side
Missandei
Missandei
She’s Daenerys’ most trusted advisor and friend. She’s always totally honest, she’s intelligent, she’s loyal, and she has good hair. Not really relevant, but still. There you go.
sage brand archetype
The Bad Side
Lord Varys
Lord Varys
He obviously values knowledge, which is usually a pretty good thing. But, ugh. He totally sucks. Him and his “little birds” need to butt the heck out of everybody’s business.

My favorite part… Music!
Rock n roll, baby
Simple Man // Lynyrd Skynyrd
Country
The Gambler // Kenny Rogers
Dude, this song has some of the most practical advice I’ve ever heard. Hint: it’s not just about a card game.
My favorite Sage song
Don’t lie to me // Eye Empire
If you don’t know me yet, you should know I’m a bit of a music snob. And I’m really proud of it.
Sure, I can appreciate the occasional pop-y song for fun, but my heart lies with the true musicians who write and play their own music.
So it’s only fitting that this is my favorite song for the Sage Brand Archetype.
I love this song. “Don’t lie to me. I just need to feel the pain of the truth.”
Seeking the truth at any cost. Fitting, right?

I just love the Sage-y memes.
They’re so snarky and overly critical. All the most fun qualities that come with the archetype.
